Her Universe Announcements at the D23 Expo

The bi-annual D23 Expo took place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA from July 14-16 and I previously shared my take on the Disney Parks news to come out of the convention. Today I want to talk about other D23 news that really got me excited and to mention again that I did not attend D23. All information in this post came from a live stream on Ashley Eckstein's Instagram.

If you've been visiting my blog for a while, you know that I love Ashley Eckstein's clothing brand Her Universe. The brand aims at giving geeky women stylish clothes that reflect their love of Sci-Fi, anime, comics, and more. Ashley's clothing features Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, and previously included The Walking Dead license. Her clothing is sold online on her website, at Hot Topic, ThinkGeek, Kohl's, and Walt Disney World.

Ashley had a panel at D23 where she shared some of her upcoming designs:

First she shared a while cable knit sweater with red, white and blue stripes and a Captain America shield logo, a dress which Ashley described as "I Love Lucy meets Captain America", and also in this collection a polka dot Captain America shield pullover. Ashley shared that all the shields on the pullover will be flocked.

Ashley has a partnership with Disney and many of her Star Wars clothing items have been sold in Hollywood Studios. There was no mention during the panel if these designs would be sold at Disney Resorts, on her online store, at Hot Topic (who now owns Her Universe), or all three. Retail prices and release dates were not discussed.

Next Ashley shared her Princess Leia tribute pieces. She explained that as the first "self-rescuing princess", Princess Leia has been a huge inspiration to Her Universe. The first item is a Princess Leia cape coat, next is Leia's Bespin dress which Ashley said will be fully embroidered, and finally a puffy vest that Leia wore on Hoth.  Again retail locations, prices and release date for these items were not mentioned during the panel.

The third collection to be previewed was a Mad Tea Party collection. Alice in Wonderland is a favorite of Ashley Eckstein and she was excited to announce these pieces. The collection will have two teacup skirts and a matching dormouse teapot cardigan, all inspired by the Magic Kingdom attraction Mad Tea Party. This collection will be released this fall at The Dress Shop in Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World.

Two Haunted Mansion dresses are also coming to Disney Parks this fall. A ballerina dress inspired by the ballerina in the Stretching Room portrait, and a ballroom dress inspired by the ballroom scene in the attraction. The artwork on these dresses was done by Ashley Taylor. No prices were discussed during the panel.

Another Haunted Mansion piece was previewed during Ashley's panel, the "Haunted Mansions Around the World” skirt includes renderings of all the Haunted Mansion attractions from Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris. Release date and prices were not announced, but expect this skirt to be released at Disney Resorts.

Finally Ashley announced that each land in the Magic Kingdom will be getting its own apparel. Frontierland will be first and include a circle skirt with imagery from the land, accompanied by a tie front Western looking blouse. The artwork was provided by Ashley Taylor. No retail price or release date was given., but these items will be available to purchase at The Dress Shop.

The second land will be Fantasyland and feature an adorable pink dress with a corset back. Attractions include It's A Small World, the castle, the carousel, Peter Pan's Flight, Mad Tea Party and The Sword in the Stone. No release date or pricing was mentioned, but this dress will also be available at The Dress Shop.

Ashley closed by stating that all of these upcoming pieces will be available in either "fall 2017" or "early 2018". I am so excited! I love all the designs but my must-haves are Leia's Bespin dress and Hoth puffy vest, the Haunted Mansion ballerina dress, and the Mad Tea Party skirt and cardigan. I better start saving!

  1. I really love the designs here...the skirts almost look like they are from the 50s? I can't wait to try some of these on!
